Countertop water filters are extremely common today and it's no wonder why everyone's using them. They are a very cost effective and easily accessible way for us to drink cleaner and healthier water. By removing contaminants and Chlorine, water filters turn tap water into safe drinking water which is much more pleasant to drink. Water filters also remove lead from the water, preventing the harmful substance from being consumed. Here are the top 7 reasons why you could significantly benefit from using a countertop water filter.

  1. Drinking filtered water is a very effective way to maintain good health and a better immune system. This is exceptionally important for the growth and development of children.
  2. Gastrointestinal Disease is inhibited with a risk that is lowered by a third for those who use water filters. This is achieved with the removal of giardia and cryptosporidium (Two microscopic parasites - the latter being resistant to the chlorine treatment of tap water).
  3. By removing Chlorine byproducts and Chlorine itself, water filters can help prevent many forms of cancer from developing and filtering water is an effective way of helping avoid it.
  4. Filtered water can also be used in cooking and food preparation to further the extent of it's superior health benefits.
  5. Solid block carbon water filters can precisely remove unwanted contaminants from tap water and leave you with fresher safer drinking water.
  6. The healthy minerals within the drinking water surpass the filtration process allowing you to enjoy the benefits. These minerals can help balance your body's pH level.
  7. A countertop water filter can save you money when compared to the cost of bottled water. This means you get to enjoy the health benefits of clean, healthy drinking water for a fraction of the cost.

Bottled water can also be affected by the carcinogenic properties of plastic bottles. The best advice would be to store filtered drinking water at a low temperature in a reusable glass bottle. This avoids any chemicals leeching from plastic bottles if they were to be used instead.

As we can see there are plentiful reasons to use a countertop water filter, whether at home or at work it is always important to filter our water. Making sure we drink safe healthy water is arguably the best way for us to maintain good health. By assuring that we take care to drink filtered water we are effectively targeting one of the main sources of our body’s vital requirements.

Are these anectdotal facts (such as those provided by the maker/seller of the filtration systems), or can you provide scientific references that prove what you're saying?

Hi Laura. Your question is a justifiable one. I have looked out some references that might help you. Thanks for provoking me to look into this further. In doing so I have came across new information that says Chlorine by itself is not effective against Cryptosporidium but can inactivate Giardia. I will correct the relevant information. Whether or not the micro parasite Giardia is reactivated when consumed I am not too sure.

The US Council on Environmental Quality “Cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine.”

As for bottled water...

"According to government and industry estimates, about one fourth of bottled water is bottled tap water (and by some accounts, as much as 40 percent is derived from tap water) -- sometimes with additional treatment, sometimes not."

Around 22% of a sample of bottles tested violated strict applicable Californian state limits for bottled water - most commonly for arsenic or certain cancer-causing man-made compounds.

I understand that perhaps not all water filters match up to the performance and criteria of the leading brands and technologies. So clarifying exactly what a specific water filter does, I assume would be the responsibility of the buyer and also the shop that sells the filters.

I hope I have answered your question well. If there are any specific areas of interest feel free to just ask. Thanks for commenting.
